Chlorine Contact Basin Repair & Rehabilitation

Butier provided construction management and inspection services for the repair and rehabilitation of the Chlorine Contact Basins (CCBs). The CCBs are used to disinfect the Title 22 compliant, disinfected tertiary water quality before distribution. They consist of six underground basins with a total capacity of 41.4 million gallons per day (MGD). Each basin is classified as a permit-required confined space and contains four channels arranged in a serpentine manner. Each channel measures approximately 123 feet long and 11 feet wide with 14-foot-high walls.

The rehabilitation of the six chlorine contact basins included the removal and replacement of slide gates while the basins were in service, mud valves, dispersion baffles, water piping, valves, and accessories. Additional scope of work items included sealing of expansion joints and outlet weir and concrete coating.
