Butier Engineering, Inc. provided construction management and QA inspection services for the construction of a new trunk sewer on West Vista Way between Vista Village Drive and Brass Lane. The project has improved reliability for one of the City’s main sewer conveyance systems; increased capacity of the main trunk sewer; and reduced risk of sanitary sewer overflow and spills. The majority of the pipe construction occurred in West Vista Way requiring deep excavation in the traveled lanes. Construction consisted of the following: 4,000 linear feet of 24-inch diameter polyvinyl chloride (PVC) “relief” trunk sewer; microtunneling a steel casing and 250-feet of carrier pipe under SR-78 in order to connect the new pipeline to an existing pipeline; 19 new manholes; 270 linear feet of 8-inch sewer; and modification of two manholes near Vista Village Drive.

Community Outreach Efforts: Butier assisted the City in developing collateral and outreach materials to distribute to residents and businesses in the affected work area. Materials included a construction fact sheet (hard copy and electronic) and wallet cards that provided construction impacts, project status, and point of contact information. Butier also assisted the City with responding to stakeholder calls regarding construction issues and concerns.

Traffic & Noise Control: The Contractor prepared an engineered traffic control plan, obtained approvals prior to the start of construction, and provided access to all properties along the alignment. In an effort to reduce noise impacts (e.g. use of hydraulic breaker for deep excavations) the Contractor used sound attenuation materials and methods.
