Butier Partners with the City of Seal Beach on the Lampson Well Treatment System

Butier Engineering, Inc. is proud to have been selected by the City of Seal Beach (City) to provide construction management and inspection services for the Lampson Well Treatment System Project, a critical infrastructure effort aimed at improving water quality and restoring the well’s full operational capacity.

The City operates four groundwater wells, including the Lampson Well, located at 4307 Lampson Avenue. Initially constructed in 2011, the well is equipped with a 500 hp pump capable of delivering up to 3,500 gallons per minute (gpm). However, due to elevated hydrogen sulfide (H2S) levels in the groundwater, which can cause strong odors and water quality concerns, the well has been operating at a reduced capacity of 700-800 gpm.

To address these challenges, the City engaged PACE Advanced Water Engineering to design a granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment system. The system includes four GAC vessels arranged in a lead-lag configuration, optimized to efficiently remove H2S while providing flexibility to treat additional contaminants in the future if needed.

This project represents a significant step forward in enhancing water reliability and sustainability for the Seal Beach community. Butier is honored to support the City in delivering this essential project.
