Carlsbad Seawater Desalination Treatment Plant Reaches Major Milestone
Construction of Poseidon Water’s Carlsbad Seawater Desalination Treatment Plant reached a major milestone on June 29, 2015, when the 2,177th (final) section of the 10-mile product water pipeline was installed. The 54-inch diameter conveyance system will deliver 50 million gallons of high-quality drinking water per day to 300,000 San Diegans. The treatment plant, which is scheduled to go online in 2016, will be the largest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. Butier Engineering, Inc. and GHD provide Owner’s Engineer services to Poseidon Water for the treatment plant and pipeline system. Kiewit Shea Desalination (KSD) is the general contractor.
