PROJECT UPDATE: JWA’s Terminals A & B Improvements Project

Since 2016, Butier Engineering, Inc. has been providing project management services for JWA’s $102 million Thomas F. Riley Terminal Improvements Project, a three-year phased endeavor that includes safety, code compliance, and aesthetic improvements. When completed, the Riley Terminal will provide travelers and tenants with the same security, comfort, and convenience as Terminal C, which opened in 2011. Progress on the key components of the improvement project includes the following:

  • Seismic Retrofit—ongoing seismic upgrades to over 175 columns throughout the interior and exterior of Terminals A and B
  • Completed New Nursing Mother’s Lounge—private space with comfortable seating, sink, outlets, and adjustable lighting
  • Completed New Animal Relief Area (ARA)—equipped with synthetic grass, waste disposal bags, a wash down hose and drainage
  • Completed Restroom Refurbishment—ADA compliance and complete fixture upgrades to Departure Level and Arrival Level restrooms
  • All Gate Areas—vaulted ceilings, new carpet and paint, lighting renovations, interior signage and wayfinding
  • Ticketing, Terminal B—receiving aesthetic improvements, including new paint and light fixtures

OCWD Fletcher Basin Dedication Ceremony

Butier Engineering, Inc. (Butier) attended Orange County Water District’s and Orange County Flood Control District’s dedication ceremony for Fletcher Basin on October 27, 2016. Butier’s team was recognized for their construction management, field inspection and materials testing (Ninyo & Moore) efforts for the $5.6 million project. The Basin, which was designed by Black & Veatch and constructed by Sukut Construction, Inc., will provide stronger flood control for the region and recharge more than 400 acre-feet of water into the Orange County Groundwater Basin annually. This increase in local groundwater will result in a significant cost savings to the region.

PROJECT UPDATE: New Bridge Installed Across Agua Hedionda Lagoon

A new bridge across the Agua Hedionda Lagoon was installed Tuesday, June 14, 2016 as a part of the City of Vista / City of Carlsbad sewer system upgrade. Butier is providing Owner’s Representative services during construction of the two-year, $64.2 million Agua Hedionda Sewer Lift Station and Interceptor Sewer Reaches Project.

New Bridge Installed Over Agua Hediondo Lagoon

County of Orange Awards Butier 5-Year Program Management Agreement at JWA

Butier recently entered into a five-year agreement with the County of Orange to provide Program Management Services at John Wayne Airport (JWA). Butier’s project managers and field representatives will assist JWA with managing its Capital Improvement Program and various airport improvement projects involving rehabilitation and modification of building systems, design and construction of security improvements, and design and construction of new structures.

OCWD Awards CM Services Contract to Butier for Mid-Basin Injection: Centennial Park Project

Congratulations to Butier Engineering, Inc. for being selected to provide construction management and inspection services to Orange County Water District for the Mid-Basin Injection: Centennial Park Project located in Santa Ana, California. The project will consist of the construction of four (4) groundwater injection wells in below grade vaults within Centennial Park; a monitoring well at the Heritage Museum; 500 LF of supply line connecting to the Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS); and 4,000 LF of backflush pipeline discharging to the Greenville-Banning Channel.

Butier is providing Owner’s Representative services during construction of the City of Vista’s Agua Hedionda Sewer Lift Station and Vista / Carlsbad Interceptor Sewer Reaches. Carlsbad Seawater Desalination Treatment Plant Reaches Major Milestone

Construction of Poseidon Water’s Carlsbad Seawater Desalination Treatment Plant reached a major milestone on June 29, 2015, when the 2,177th (final) section of the 10-mile product water pipeline was installed. The 54-inch diameter conveyance system will deliver 50 million gallons of high-quality drinking water per day to 300,000 San Diegans. The treatment plant, which is scheduled to go online in 2016, will be the largest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. Butier Engineering, Inc. and GHD provide Owner’s Engineer services to Poseidon Water for the treatment plant and pipeline system. Kiewit Shea Desalination (KSD) is the general contractor.

Carlsbad Seawater Desalination Treatment Plant featured in CNN’s “City of Tomorrow”

Poseidon Water’s Carlsbad Seawater Desalination RO Treatment Plant is featured in CNN’s “City of Tomorrow” television and online series. Butier Engineering, Inc. is providing Owner’s Engineer and Inspection services for the $1 billion 50 MGD treatment facility and 10-mile product water pipeline. When completed, it will be the largest seawater desalination plant in the Western Hemisphere.
